Kaylee Spuehler's Speech
As quoted by Dave Forman, “ Humanity is the Cancer of all nature. “. Hello, my name is Kaylee Spuehler, and today I will be speaking about how our bad habits of littering and pollution have a major impact on global animal extinction. As a part of our Making a Difference Project, we created awareness of how to protect nature as a whole, and steer us off the road of major extinction. Our present course will lead to the extinction of fifty percent of all plant and animal species by 2100! After hearing our speeches, we hope that your interest will be sparked enough to go out and make a difference in the world. Very few people are aware of the consequences that we will have to face when certain animals go extinct, and they don’t think about how we impact them by the little things that we do. For example, when you throw a simple piece of trash on the ground you could possibly be damaging future animals. This can occur by floods taking that piece of trash into the rivers, which flow into the ocean, and kills whatever animal that eats it. If eating this trash doesn’t kill them, then it would severely mess up their eating diet. You may not have ever realized this, but when you feed ducks or birds bread it messes up their dietary system and could cause a malfunction in DNA for future generations, all because we decided to put an unnecessary impact on their environment. A lot of people don’t think that animal extinction matters, but by the end of the century, half of all species will be extinct. Does that matter? It is estimated that fifty percent of animals live in the rainforest, and the biggest rainforest on earth is The Amazon. I am stating this because, The Amazon lost over seven-teen percent of its forest covering within the last century due to human activity. Doesn’t that matter? My group and I were curious on the awareness that people knew about animal extinction, so we created a survey that questioned people on their knowledge, and we were astounded by the results. So here’s Miykala Morris with the survey data.

As previously stated by Kayla Adams, you can see that we will be promoting organized trash pick ups such as, Craven County Clean Sweep. My group and I wanted to partake in one of their clean ups, but there were no new dates available on their website. We will keep checking to see if they update, and when they do we will take part in one of the clean up days, we also strongly encourage you to do the same. Even if you don’t have the time to spend the day out with this organization, you can get a group of friends together, or you can go by yourself, and pick up litter in your backyard or anywhere in your community, you’ll be making a difference no matter the amount of time you spend picking up the area around you, every little bit counts. The animals in your community may not be on the endangered list, but that doesn't mean they can’t end up there one day, so why not help now?. Our group also wants to get our families involved in helping out in pick ups and raising awareness. We started small with raising awareness by emailing our families the link to our weebly, which provides a plethora of information about how littering and pollution affect animal extinction, and asked them to share it with people they know as well. Though this task may seem small, it will hopefully help many people find their way to our page, then informing and encouraging them to help clean up their community, and spread the word about animal extinction. We really focused on picking up any trash around you, or signing up for a big organization. The trash people throw on the ground can affect aquatic and terrestrial animal life, while cleaning up I found plastic bags, cans, glass shards, and so many more things that can fatally harm animals. The way littering and pollution affect animals can also make a big impact on people and how we live our day to day lives, my group and I don’t think many people realize this, which is why we chose to take a stand and raise awareness. Now heres Brandon Bradley with the conclusion for our Making a Difference project.
